Spanish Ag Product Counterfeiters Convicted In Trial Brought By Bayer

In a court case brought by Bayer CropScience, three counterfeiters of crop protection products in Murcia, Spain, have been found criminally guilty, Bayer said in a press release. The companies, which had been selling unlabeled, unlicensed products, were sentenced to a fine on grounds of an offense against public health and consumer protection. Additionally, they are temporarily banned from trading in the crop protection industry.

The legal proceedings were instituted in 2004 in a close joint effort by Bayer CropScience and the relevant authorities because some of the products the counterfeiters were marketing contained the active substance imidacloprid, infringing on Bayer CropScience’s patent held at that time.
