Beetham to Step Up as New Cibus CEO

Cibus Global’s Senior Vice President of Research and Development Peter Beetham is slated to fill the position of President and CEO, the gene editing firm announced in a press release.

“Peter combines a deep scientific understanding and research background with the ability to see possibilities for commercialization and utility,” said Chairman of the Board Rory Riggs.

Dr. Beetham received his Ph.D. from Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia. Prior to co-founding Cibus, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Boyce Thompson Institute at Cornell University.

Current company head Keith Walker has announced his retirement and will serve on the company’s Board of Directors going forward.

Since co-founding Cibus in 2001, Dr. Walker has overseen the research of new, patented trait tools, as well as the growth of Cibus’ business initiatives. Dr. Walker’s career has included a variety of management positions at companies including Mycogen Corporation, Agrigenetics Company and Plant Genetics, Inc.

“Keith’s leadership and vision have been an essential part of the founding and development of Cibus and its technology from the ground up. It’s rare to find someone with such keen business skills who also has in-depth knowledge of scientific research,” Riggs continued.

Greg Gocal, Ph.D., the current Vice President of Research at Cibus, also a member of the founding group, has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Research and Development to oversee all research activities in Beetham’s former position. Dr. Gocal received his Ph.D. from the Australian National University and previously held research positions and headed the molecular biology group at Valigen.
