ADM, Deere, and Monsanto Collaborate on Corn

Three leading agribusinesses — Archer Daniels Midland Co. (ADM), Deere & Co., and Monsanto Co.— have announced an agreement to collaborate on corn-crop residue research exploring its potential as animal feed and bioenergy products such as biomass to generate steam and electricity, or cellulosic feedstock to produce biofuels like ethanol. Focusing on “corn stover” – the unused stalks, leaves, and cobs – the companies hope to discover economically and environmentally sustainable ways of harvesting, storing, and transporting the residue.

ASTA Announces New Leadership

The American Seed Trade Association (ASTA) announced its new slate of leaders for the 2008/09 officers, Board of Directors, and several association divisions and committees. Founded in 1883, (ASTA) – located in Alexandria, Virginia, US – is one of the US’s oldest trade organizations, with approximately 750 member companies involved in seed production and distribution, plant breeding, and related industries in North America. ASTA is an authority on plant germplasm, and advocates science and policy issues of industry importance with a mission to enhance the development and free movement of quality seed worldwide.
