First Seed Testing Lab Opens in Sri Lanka

SGS Seed Testing Lab, Sri Lanka

SGS, a top inspection, verification, testing and certification company based in Switzerland, said it opened its first seed testing laboratory in Dambulla. The new laboratory will be the first independent seed testing laboratory in Sri Lanka. The opening ceremony for the new laboratory was hosted by Mr. N. Sriram, Country Manager for SGS Sri Lanka, with Mr. J. Opatha, mayor of Dambulla Municipal Council, Mr. L. Gurunada, Business Manager of SGS agricultural Services and others SGS representatives in attendance.

The lab will perform the following tests using ISTA standards:

  • Seed Germination
  • Physical / Analytical Purity
  • Inert Matter
  • Weed Seeds
  • Damaged Seeds
  • Other Crop Seeds
  • Seed Viability test (Tz)
  • Moisture
  • Accelerated Aging Test (seed vigor)
