Cheminova Debuts Cercobin Fungicide

Cheminova launched Cercobin fungicide in the United States today.
The product controls diseases including Cercospora fungi blight and leaf spots, white mold, powdery mildew and frogeye leaf spot, according to the company.
Cercobin can be used on dry beans, edible beans and soybeans, sugar beets, peanuts, tree nuts, stone fruit and pome fruit such as apples and pears, onions, potatoes, strawberries, fall wheat and cucurbit plants such as melons, squash and other gourds, according to a press release.
“Cercobin is the first of three new fungicide offerings planned from Cheminova this year,” said Cheminova Director of Marketing Deneen Sebastian.
The low-toxicity active ingredient thiophanate-methyl (TM) acts in the soil and on leaves both to prevent a variety of plant diseases in new uninfected growth and cure disease in already-infected crops, according to a press release. TM is available in formulations including dust, granular, water-dispersable granular, wettable powder and flowable concentrate, according to the EPA.
According to a press release, Cercobin may be combined with strobilurin and azole fungicides.TM is a FRAC code 1 ingredient which acts on plant cells during their assembly in mitosis, according to the Fungicide Resistance Action Committee.
