Arysta LifeScience Registers Kasumin Bactericide in U.S.

Arysta LifeScience North America said on Thursday that it received registration from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its Kasumin bactericide. Kasumin offers a unique mode of action with a high level of preventative activity, making it active on a wide array of plant pathogenic bacteria.

Kasumin is now registered in the United States for its use in apples and pears for control of fire blight, including streptomycin-resistant strains. Kasugamycin, the unique active ingredient in the product, makes it an effective preventative disease management tool for fruit growers.

“Resistance is a serious concern among growers,” said Carmen Holding, tree, nut & vine marketing manager, Arysta. “Bacterial diseases can be economically devastating to the long-term viability of a grower’s operation if not effectively managed and growers currently have a limited number of control options. Kasumin targets a different site of action from other bactericides and gives growers a new tool to control bacterial diseases — including resistant strains — to protect fruit tree health and yields.”

Kasumin is available as a liquid formulation, and field testing has shown it can be easily tank-mixed with other fungicides to increase the spectrum of disease control.
